Cheap and Easy Homemade Pizza

Ingredients;

2 and 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil or cooking oil
3/4 to 1 and 1/2 cups water (Adelaide tap water is fine)

Sauce for base
(Tomato, BBQ, sweet chilli, etc)

Toppings of your choice
(onion, garlic, meats, tomato, mushrooms, cheese, herbs, etc)

My toppings;
Garlic
Mushrooms
Mixed herbs
Bacon pieces
Cooked chicken pieces
Shredded cheese
Salt and pepper

Method;

Wash your hands, put on a hair net or clean hat. Use gloves when handling food where applicable.

Preheat oven to 210-230C.

Chop and slice toppings as required, put aside.

Put flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, pour in 3/4 cup of water and tablespoon of oil. Mix well until it starts to form a ball, a spoon can be used for this stage.

Place ball onto floured board and knead* for 3 to 5 minutes, this dough should be soft and not sticky, add more water if you think it's too dry.

Keep adding flour to the board if it gets too sticky and water to the dough if it's too dry as you are kneading, when finished split into three or four and roll out thin using a rolling pin**.

To keep from drying out place a damp (not wet) tea towel over the made bases until needed.

Use your hands to spread the dough into the shape of the oven dish or tray or your required shape, I like a thin crust so have spread these out as much as I could.

Using a spoon, carefully spread your choice of sauce around the base leaving a small gap around the edges.

Add your favourite toppings and bake in a hot oven @ 210-230C for 15 to 20 minutes. If you like a crispy crust bake a little bit longer, if you like a soft crust bake for a bit less. I let people assemble their own pizzas from a selection of ingredients before cooking, this is a lot of fun for people all ages and everyone can have what they like on their own

Once cooked slice as you wish and serve hot, can be eaten cold and frozen as leftovers. This recipe made enough for 4 adults with leftovers.

* this is how to knead bread properly.
** if you don't have a rolling pin you can try this method, or this one.
