South Ausralian Christmas Pageants 2017

Now that the main pageant in Adelaide has been and gone there is still a chance to take the family to a pageant and have a free or cheap day of Christmas entertainment. Adelaide has a variety of pageants still to make their way down the local streets, if you didn't make it into town for the big one you can go and see one of our local pageants.

One of our traditions here in Adelaide has long been watching the floats, characters and clowns of a pageant and a lot of people hold fond memories of watching from the roadside, writing in chalk on the road or even being a part of it as a clown or on a float.

Now that we are fast approaching Christmas there are pageants still to be done both to the north and south of the city.  Here is a list of pageants we know of still to come and dates around Adelaide, the hills and the country.

Pageants are not just about the big red man at the end, they are a great community event where you can see your local clubs, schools, organisations and businesses represented. It's free to sit on the side of the road and take it all in and our pageants always have good variety to keep everyone interested.

Tips to make the day easier.

  • Pack and bring a lunch, drink and snacks, food can be expensive to buy out and it can take a long time in big crowds.
  • Bring sunscreen and use it and a hat and wear it, it's warming up going into summer here now and a few minutes in the sun is all it takes to get burnt.
  • Get there early, find a good spot and get set up, don't forget to allow time to draw in chalk on the road.
  • Take a camera with a spare memory card and spare batteries if you have them. Pictures from the pageant are great with all the colour and action.
  • Relax and enjoy it, wave to the people in the pageant, dance to the sound of the marching bands and have a good look at all the floats. That's all free .
